Specialist transport news - Roving exhibition lorries to take to road

A convoy of specialist transport vehicles, the likes of which has never been seen before, is set to take to the roads of the United States, according to a report in The New York Times.

It is said that an artist organiser named Eric Fischl will be requiring specialist transport to travel the vast nation as part of an event named "America: Now and Here".

Rumours have long abounded that a Great American Art Trip will hit the highways of the United States and now it has been confirmed that Fischl and his team will be looking to include such specialist haulage as band transport, art transport and museum transport as part of his roving exhibition.

The organisers of the cultural extravaganza have said that they hope to have six 18-wheel lorries in service for a full two-year tour, which, they hope, will get people all over the country engaged with issues of American cultural identity.

Fischl believes that the specialist transport required won't just be a means to an end – instead, it will have an important role to play in inspiring people across the country.

"When these trucks come to town and unfold, people are going to be totally curious about what's inside them, in the same way they are when the circus or Nascar comes to town," he said.

If successful, the tour could well inspire a similar roving exhibition in Britain, perhaps travelling from Chichester in West Sussex all the way to Aberdeen in Scotland.
