Specialist transport South Coast news - Hindhead Tunnel to open soon

Specialist transport to the South Coast is about to get a whole lot speedier, with the Hindhead Tunnel scheduled to open to traffic at the beginning of July.

For a number of years now, all specialist transport to the South Coast has had to make allowance for the considerable tailbacks that frequently occur on the A3 between London and South Coast cities such as Portsmouth, Southampton and Chichester.

However, lorry drivers, motorcyclists and car drivers alike can now look forward to a relief in congestion along the A3, with the impressive new 1.2 mile bypass soon to open.

In fact, the tunnel has already been tried and tested by local residents, although only on foot – last month nearly 7,000 people bought tickets to walk the route while raising money for charity in the process.

One resident who had the privilege of walking the £371 million tunnel told press, "We were very impressed by the sheer scale of it, when you get up close. And of course many of us have been tormented by the traffic through Hindhead, so it was great to see for that reason as well."

Specialist transport in the South Coast will benefit from the tunnel as much as anyone else, especially considering the high level of boat, corporate, theatre and music transport that is carried each year along the A3.
