East Sussex opera house has turbines
The hard work of specialist transport has ensured that a wind turbine has finally been launched at the Opera House in Glyndebourne, East Sussex.
The "landmark development" wind turbine had to be delivered to the concert venue, section by section, by specialist transport convoys travelling from Essex.
However, there have been stringent criticisms of the turbine from many community groups, with one describing it as "Glyndebourne's Folly".
One person who takes a more favourable view of the turbine is Sir David Attenborough, who made the effort to show his support by being there in person to launch the facility.
"It is great to be involved with something that is working with nature," said the broadcasting legend.
Construction of the wind turbine began in October 2011, once specialist transport had succeeded in ensuring all sections were in place.
"This is a ground-breaking development and an important step for ensuring sustainability for Glyndebourne and the arts," commented a spokesperson from the opera house.
"Wind power can never provide for all our wants but every bit of power generated by wind must be welcomed," said Sir David while speaking to journalists in Lewis, East Sussex.
