Windmill's sails being replaced

Those who fear that the iconic sails from Littlehampton's Windmill Entertainment Centre have disappeared can be reassured, specialist transport may have removed them but they will soon be replaced by some pristine lookalikes.

The decision was taken by Arun District Council after it finally conceded that over 30 years of harsh winds and weather conditions had taken their toll.

News organisations report that the project has been overseen by a surveying and estate team from the council, with specialist transport ensuring that the old sails were removed safely from the West Sussex site.

And the good news is that the specialist transport will soon be ready to bring the new sails to Littlehampton's premiere theatre and film venue.

A council spokesperson commented, "The new sails are made and ready to go up. The contractors are just waiting for the weather to get a bit better and for the winds to drop a bit as they are trickier to put up than they are to take down."

However, there is some concern about the future of the South Coast venue, with councillors currently discussing proposals to sell off the site and replace it with a performing arts venue elsewhere.
