Transport yourself with Dawson and Freud
Art lovers in the south of England will be delighted to hear that exhibition transport in West Sussex has been hard at work to bring an extraordinary collection of artefacts together observing the life and work of the late Lucian Freud (1922 -2011).
The exhibition, David Dawson: Working with Lucian Freud, will be held at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester from 28 January to 20 May and presents paintings by Freud alongside photographs and paintings by Dawson, Freud's model and studio assistant.
Dawson met the great artist through Freud's art dealer James Kirkman, and soon became assistant, model and, perhaps most importantly, good friend to Freud. This exhibition will showcase some very intimate work and photographs of the artist.
Curator of the National Portrait Gallery Sarah Howgate recently told The Guardian, "Freud said that he knew Dawson better than anyone else. He'd been his most consistent model, they shared a mutual understanding, a respect for one another and a love of painting."
Show curator at Pallant House Simon Martin, said, the exhibition "is not a show about either artist, but rather the relationship between the two of them".
It is not only West Sussex exhibition transport which has been hard at work delivering pieces for a Freud exhibition as the National Portrait Gallery in London are soon to house more than 100 works by Freud (9 February to 27 May), spanning the artist's 70-year career and featuring David Dawson.
