The South Coast Olympic sailing countdown begins for event transport providers

As 2012 gets underway, London and the South Coast are gearing up for the Olympics and Paralympics. Event transport providers are girding their loins ready for the onslaught of people and equipment which will need to be moved into and around the region prior to the two events which commence in July and August respectively.

On the South Coast, event transport will focus mainly on Weymouth and Portland in Dorset where the sailing competitions are taking place.

Olympic sailing events are being held between Sunday 29 July and Saturday 11 August, when ten medal events will be contested.

There will be a total of 380 sailors competing – 237 men and 143 women – for six male titles and four women's titles. Competitors will take part using a variety of craft including dinghies, keelboats, and windsurfing boards.

The Paralympic sailing events will take place from 1 September to 6 September and will involve 80 athletes competing in three medal events: the single-person, two-person and three-person keelboat competitions.

It's sure to be a busy time for everyone in the area and shops, businesses and South Coast event transport providers are all looking forward to welcoming the athletes, team members and spectators into the region to enjoy the spectacle.
