Green man gets ready
It is only eight years since band transport from Europe first hauled sound and lighting equipment from around the continent to the Green Man Festival in Wales, but 2011's Green Man, which will got underway this weekend, is already being billed as one of the UK's most popular live music events.
Aside from all the preparation went into this year's festival, by both organisers and band transport in Europe, another sign of Green Man's popularity is the fact that all 13,000 tickets sold out prior to the opening day.
Crowd psychologist Fiona Stewart, the woman who runs the event, comments, "Someone asked me just the other day about how we compare ourselves to things like Glastonbury, but for me the Green Man is kind of a festival apart.
"It's difficult to pinpoint similarities between us and something that's attended each year by 200,000 gig-goers, because having that level of population on site takes things to an entirely different level.
"I find that the people that come here are generally looking for a different type of experience.
"Although I wasn't here right at the beginning, I've always wanted people to experience a sense of freedom when they come here, to take in something new and interesting."
2011's Green Man line up included some amazing names, with band transport from Europe ensuring that Fleet Foxes, Noah and the Wale, Laura Marling and Villagers were among the artists present.
